Why telling YOUR story in YOUR home matters. Telling your story with Northern Virginia storytelling photographer, Micah Simmons Photography

Ok, ok. Before I hear well my house isn’t big enough. Or we have too much clutter. Or I’m worried about light… Let me start this by asking you a question… What are five memories you of you and your littles ones that you hope, not only you never forget, BUT that they’ll never forget too? I could bet that many of them are everyday moments, moments that seem so small, but are SO big. It could the way your little one’s hair sticks up to the side just after waking up. Or maybe it’s the way your little one likes to dress themselves. Or maybe how they snuggle up on the couch with you or your spouse or a sibling or pet. I mean the moments are endless. The way they turned a box into ‘their house’ for a week by coloring and dragging each other around in it (admittedly this was just a favorite moment of ours). Maybe it’s how they play dress up, or how they color or simply how they giggle.

YOUR home matters for so many reasons. Not just that it holds so much of our memories, but it’s also where you and your littles are likely most comfortable. It is home, after all. I often offer a few suggestions for these sessions and I make sure to answer any and all questions you may have. But ultimately I encourage you to be YOU! To have fun, to make it light hearted. I encourage your littles to play. These sessions are fun and real. They’re true to you and your family and there is something just so perfect about that. I want to document your family in a real and authentic way and this is such a beautiful way to do so.

Another amazing and beautiful thing about in home sessions is that they can be as long OR as short as you would like for them to be (though I do recommend at least 1 – 1.5 hours). They can even be from sun up, to sun down, many people like this too. I offer several package options to make sure you document as much as you’d like. These sessions also happen rain or shine. Which is great, particularly during the spring when there’s SO much rain. Or winter, when it’s super cold and maybe you only want to spend a few minutes in your back yard.

In home sessions, at the very heart of it, are what best tell YOUR story. I find they’re the images that as my children get older they pick first to look at and hear a story. They are drawn to these because they are the moments they will remember or maybe won’t and they’ll have a photograph to remind them. They’re the images that immediately draw me in from my own past. I suddenly remember that small blanket I carried around day in and day out. I suddenly remember and can smell the flowers I picked in the back yard with my siblings. I want my children to look back and remember their first swing set, or the way they snuggled up with me on our couch around 1 p.m. everyday, yet wouldn’t nap. I want them to be able to pass this to their children. These sessions are what create the most beautiful art, the memories that we can forever hold tangible. They are raw, emotive & connected. And they’re beautiful. And they’re the perfect way to remember all the details & all the big picture moments too.

Sill have questions?! Ask away. I strongly encourage you to reach out and ask the questions you have. I’m always more than happy to chat. Also, due to everything going on I’ll be offering ANY in home sessions (includes newborn sessions) booked for a future date, as we navigate this odd time, at 50% off! These sessions must be booked by April 27, 2020.
