{Breastfeeding Empowerment}

“Beliefs have the power to create and the power to destroy. Human beings have the awesome ability to take any experience of their lives and create a meaning that disempowers them or one that can literally save their lives.” – Tony Robbins
I love this quote… I love this quote because it is SO empowering and so true.  As many of you know I offer breastfeeding photography, among many other things.  Two of the biggest reasons I love photography and what I do, my passion, is because one, I get to capture a moment that is turned into forever.  And two, I get to help empower people and tell their story.  Raw and honestly.  I want you to take a look at this beautiful woman.  She is quietly and happily nursing her one year old daughter in the woods.  In nature doing something so, so natural.  But there is so much more to this picture, to this story.  You see… K  {I will refer to her as K because she’s asked that for now I not tag her due to personal reasons, but wants to share her story} contacted me during world breastfeeding week to do a breastfeeding session.  I instantly was drawn to her.  I could tell she was fun and super excited about this.  We met just a mere two days later… K explained to me that she was just diagnosed with cancer on August 1, 2016.  She explained that she was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma, grade 3.  She was told on her daughter’s first birthday, she was told she would need chemo, a mastectomy and radiation.  She then told me she believes in God and knows that she will be ok.  She told me this is why she wanted me to capture her last moments breastfeeding her beautiful daughter.  Because she would no longer be able to in a mere two days.  My heart sank.  This.  This is why I do what I do.  So that K will always have this memory.  So that she can document this time in her life and remember this precious bonding time of nursing.  K and I continue to talk every day or so, it’s only been a couple of weeks since meeting her and it feels as though I’ve known her my whole life.  K is a walking example of strength and courage and most of all of love.  She continues to laugh and continues to believe that she is being taken care of.  I told K this and she has said the same thing.  There are no mistakes or coincidences.  I met K at this time for a reason.  And I am forever grateful.  K I know you will beat this.  I know you are being taken care of.  I can’t tell you what it means to me that you have asked me to help document this journey for you.  I am thinking and praying for you and your family.  <3.
